Peskin model (1975)

Natural model for the heart pacemaker cells

dfi/dt=1

the phase of each oscillator evolves with the same frequency. When this phase arrives to a threshold value fi=2p, the phase is reset to zero and the phase of the neighboring sites is modified:

fi ==>  0
fj ==>  fj + f(fj)

Pulse-coupled, only when the oscillator arrives to a value 2p, interacts with the rest of the population. The function f is called phase response curve (PRC). If the coupling is positive (excitatory) the population tends to synchronize, i.e., to arrive to the threshold at the same time. Whereas, if the coupling is negative (inhibitory) it will tend to keep a phase difference as large as possible between connected units.
